No one is so eager to gain new experiences as he who doesn't know how to make use of the old ones. This statement of Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach, an Austrian novelist, tells us that a person cannot make or create new experience until she/he learns how to impart or use his/her past experiences towards achieving one’s journey in life. This statement of hers inspired me as I reminisces my experience during my practicum of the whole-month program at Southeast Sulawesi Kendari, Indonesia. The said activity gave me an opportunity to experience how it likes to be a teacher outside my comfort zone. It also made me realized how important it is to employ varied teaching strategies that lead to an effective and successful teaching-learning process. This experience of mine plays a great part in my life for I didn’t just went and taught but I also gained a family as well as friends from another country.
Based on my teachings, I have realized that it is not easy to teach students with the certain strategies use in meeting or addressing the needs of the diverse learners towards learning because of the language barrier. I have also realized and pictured out that teaching is not just an ordinary job but it is an extraordinary one wherein a teacher should possess pleasing personality and characteristics in doing his/her mission as a teacher for it is not easy to be a teacher especially in the elementary level because it is where students learn the basic concepts of learning which will serve as their foundation upon learning new concepts in higher education. Thus, as a future professional teacher, I think I need more experiences and must attend seminars towards teaching in order to have an overview and background experience to enhance more my skills in teaching. This given opportunity for us as pre-service teachers will always be a part of our lives and will always be treasured. As the saying goes, experience is the best teacher.
