Summary

Purposes of practicum

  1. To provide opportunity for the pre-service teachers to teach as well as to learn outside their comfort zones.

  2. To let the pre-service teachers be aware of how it was to teach in a globalized way.

  3. To enrich the skills of teaching.

  4. To improve and enhance one's own language and communication skills.

  5. To be able to meet new people, new environment, new culture and traditions, and of course gain new friends a family by heart.

Procedures of practicum

1. Welcome Ceremony in the receiving University (HaluOleo Univeristy)

-Attend the orientation program

-Meet the University's President, Dean and faculty of the School of Education, as well as the buddies.

-Be oriented in the assigned schools to teach.

- Be on a short tour in the campus

2. Roam around the place

- be oriented on the roadway from our dorm up to the school

- be oriented in any stores and other stalls or places where we can buy our needs.

3. Going in the designated school to teach

- Meet the school head and teachers as well as the students.

- ask for a sample copy of their lesson plan

- be oriented in the learning hours and curriculum

- roam around the school

4. Observation before teaching

- observe a the students learning skills of the students

-observe the teaching strategies of the teachers

- jot down notes and take a picture during observation

5. Assign in a classroom to teach

-meet the teachers

-get subjects to teach

-plan the teaching schedule

6. Teaching proper

- make and submit a lesson plan in every teaching

- teach the given subjects


Outcomes of practicum

1. My communication skills was enhanced.

2. I was able to adjust and learned something of their language and in their environment.

3. I gained not just friends but a family as well among the pupils and teachers.

4. I conquered my nervousness in teaching, in other words, my teaching skills was improved.

5. I learned how to deal with various problems with regards to teaching and in communicating with other people.

6. I learned another cultures and traditions aside from what I knew in my country.


The challenges of practicum

a. dealing with the language barrier and new environment

b. adjusting in the time of both waking and sleeping

c. having difficulty of learning some of their language
